E-mail whitelist

An e-mail whitelist us a list of contacts that users considers acceptable to receive e-mails from and their messages don't have to be sent to spam folder.

If a whitelist is exclusive then only the e-mails from the addresses contained in the whitelist will pass.

Non-commercial whitelists

Non-commercial whitelists are operated by various non-profit organizations like ISPs and other entities interested in blocking spam. If a server receives complaints regarding its users safety a whitelist operator can remove that server from the whitelist and users will not receive messages from it anymore.

Commercial whitelists

Commercial whitelists is a system where the ISP allows someone to pass the spam filters to send e-mails to its subscribers in exchange of either a prepaid fee, an annual fee or a fee for each message sent. The aim of the commercial whitelists are to allow companies to reach their clients via e-mail.

LAN whitelists

Another use for whitelists is local networks security. Many networks admins configure whitelists with MAC addresses to control users in their network. Some firewalls may be configured so they'll allow traffic from and to a certain IP address
