Virtual private network
From Saferpedia
A Virtual Private Network (VPN) is usually used inside a company, organization or several companies in order to keep their communications over the Internet safer. The VPN technology is designed to create inside a public network a private sub-network to which are connected only authorized users. A VPN can't communicate with other network systems or users of the base public network. Thus VPN's users can have the impression that they are connected to a private, dedicated, independent, with all security advantages. This network is actually a virtual network physically being only a sub-network framed in the base public network.
VPN messages can be transmitted using a public network with standard protocols or using a private network of the Internet Service Supplier available to public.
