Upload

Upload represents the reverse of the download process, referring to sending data from a local computer to another computer far away, like a server or another client in order to store transferred data. Download and upload name were used for the first time by computer users, with the increasing popularity of BBS (Bulletin Board Systems) easing the distribution on a large scale.

The use of term "upload" involves most of the times sent data that are stored permanently. The term indicates data sending that can be used in any way while the transmission is in progress.
