UNIX is an operating system for computers developed in 1969 by a group of people from American Telephone & Telegraph in Bell Labs.The group was formed by Ken Thompson, Dennis Ritchie, Brian Kernighan, Douglas Mcllroy, Joe Ossanna and others.

Today UNIX describes any operating system which is consistent with UNIX standards, mening that the core of the system is working the same with the UNIX OS.
