Second life is a well known web 3D community whit the headquarter in USA called Linden Labs. Users can virtually interact using an avatar, they can create various environments, they can trade and earn virtual money.

On its official site, Second Life is described as being a "virtual world imagined and created by its residents". Indeed, Second Life is a very various world, where you can meet people from all the corners of the real world. It is a social network service part of the Web 2.0 phenomena.

The virtual world of Second Life was launched on June 23 2003. First and most important condition to play Second Life is the age, which is 18 years old. For younger persons, Linden Labs created the Teen Second Life version.

In august 2007 was introduced the "Slvoice" service and the possibility to hear the others.

In 2009 Second Life was considered to be the future of the Internet, a web 3.0. It already appeared the first 3D browsers (ExitReality) in beta version inspired from Second Life, the virtual world where you can recreate the real world.

Second Life in business

Second Life has its own economy and even its own currency - linden dollar (L$) which has value in real life: 1 USD = 250 L$. There can be converted real money in virtual ones or reverse.

There are people who got reach in Second Life, the most notorious example being the one of the avatar Anshe Chung, who developed a land business in the virtual world, becoming the first millionaire of Second Life.
