Safer Internet Day or SID is an European event, taking place every year in February with the support of European network Insafe - European Safer Internet Network with the program Safer Internet Plus supported by the European Commission.

SID's purpose
SID aims to promote a safer and more responsible way of using online technology and mobiles especially by children and teenagers and also making them aware of unsupervised internet surfing dangers.
Sponsored by Viviane Redin, the European Commissioner for Informational Society, SID is an event with global participation, awareness and media. The 2010 edition was the seventh edition and was celebrated in about 65 countries from all over the world.
SID in Romania
SID 2008
In 2008, Romania participated for the first time at this event, winning the first place at 5 - 10 years category with the project "I'm just a kid", realized by a class of 18 children from the Gymnasium College "Zaharia Boiu" from Sighisoara, Mures county. Romania was appreciated as being one of the most active participant country being the third from 27 states of European Union as activities, number of works and the quality of the projects. On this occasion, the Sigur.info Consortium was awarded the Diploma of Excellence form the Ministry of Communications and Informational Society for the activity in organizing SID 2008 in Romania.
SID 2009
Sigur.info Consortium organized the national contest "My internaut family!". There were over 1000 children with over 440 projects from all the country.
SID 2010
The theme of the national contest was "Think B4 U post!". There were over 333 projects from all over the country.
