SSE - Streaming SIMD Extensions is a set of SIMD (Single Instruction, Multiple Data) instructions extended to x86 architecture projected by Intel and inserted in 1999 in their series of Pentium III processors as an answer to 3DNow! from AMD. SSE contained 70 new instructions.
