Privacy
From Saferpedia
Privacy - The ability of an individual or group of individuals to control the information flux about them selves, selecting the data they want to reveal.
Privacy was defined by the International Standardization Organization - ISO as the "assurance that information is accessible only to those authorized to have access" and is one of the cornerstones of security information. Privacy is one of the design objectives of the cryptosystems , made possible by modern cryptography techniques.
Regarding internet safety, privacy means to know how to protect your personal data. For example when a person chats whit another person that he/she does not know personally, he/she shouldn't give their personal information to that person, like: physical address, real or complete name, financial data, data regarding vacations, etc. You have to know what personal data you can share and what personal data you mustn't share with strange people.
Also people have to know that on social networks (Hi5, Facebook, Twittwer, etc) there are filters that allow only certain people to access someone's account.
In order to increase children, parents and teachers awareness regarding internet privacy the Safer Internet Day (SID) 2010 contest had the theme "Think B4 U post!". The focus of this theme was the way children and teens manage online images and the way they post their private life online without thinking at related risks.
