MS-DOS (Microsoft - Disk Operating System) is a OS for PCs. This OS was bought by Microsoft and was the most used member of DOS OS being the main OS of PCs between 1980-1990. It was preceded by M-DOS OS (also called MIDAS) designed and put under copyright in 1979.

MS-DOS was written for processors family Intel 8086, especially for IBM computers and those compatible with it. This was gradually replaced by OS offering a graphical interface (GUI - Graphical user interface).
