Linux is a generic term referring to OS derived from UNIX based on Linux kernel. The development of the Linux OS is one of the most prominent examples of collaboration in order to develop a free, open source OS.
Linux is mostly used in servers although it can be installed on wide area of computers, integrated devices, mobiles and super computers. In the last years, the Linux OS became more popular, mostly because of the Ubuntu OS and the appearance of netbooks.
