IRC (Internet Relay Chat) is a form of real time messenger over the internet or synchronous conferences. It's designed for group discussions on forums, private discussions, chat and file transfer. Starting with May 2009 the first 100 networks of IRC served at a given moment over half a million users with hundreds of channels working on about 1500 server worldwide.
IRC was created on 1988 by Jarkko Oikarinen to replace a software called MUT (MultiUser Talk).
