IBM is the short for International Business Machines, an American corporation that produces informational technology. Between 1950 and 1980 the company became very popular by being a leader in informational technology with systems like IBM 1490, IBM 7000 or by inventing the hard disk. In 1981 it developed the IBM-PC microcomputer, the ancestor of x86 architecture PCs today. During the 80s it participated in software development for PC with Microsoft for MS-DOS and OS/2.
IBM is also one of the leaders in producing microchips. Of the world's best were the 64 bit architecture that equipped Apple computers between 2002 and 2005 known as Power G5 or PowerPC 970.
However in 2005 IBM sold its computer division to Chinese constructor Lenovo, which announced to continue selling IBM computers under this name.
