Home page
From Saferpedia
A Homepage or a start page is the URL loading automatically when a web browser starts or when the Home button is clicked. This option can be deactivated and then reactivated as well the URL to load can be changed.
The term is also used to refer to the first page, server's index or the main page of a web site. In some countries like Germany, Japan, South Korea, and previously in USA the homepage term is referring more to complete site than to a single page. During the late 90s the USA has dropped this use of the term, being replaced with the term of website.
In the homepage category are included the sites trying to become start pages (more like a personal web portal). A start page is a website designed to organize links or information for the user when the browser is started. Start pages include information like news, weather, games and other widgets and web gadgets. Example of start pages: iGoogle, Netvibes, Sthrt, Pageflakes, etc.
