Filter

A filter is a content control software adjusting information or specific Internet services access, warning for harmful websites, registering user's Internet surfing, blocking harmful sites and even completely stopping the computer. Filtering systems can be installed on stand alone computers, servers, phone with Internet access, etc.
Applied restrictions can be at different levels, like:
- The government of a country can apply a filter at a national level;
- A ISP can apply a filter at the level of the entire network;
- An employer can apply a filter for its employers;
- A school for its students;
- A parent on its child computer;
- An individual user can apply a filter on its own computer.
The main purpose of applying a filter is usually to prevent other people's access to content unauthorized by owner or by competent authorities. When a filter is imposed without user's consent this can be considered censorship.
Certain control software also include time control features designed for parents that wants to limit children access on the computer.
All these features and other are also included in parental control software .
