EUKIDSOnline II(Great Britain) is a project financed by the Safer internet program, that proposes to create a database of knowledge regarding the existent and emergent use, risks and consequences of online technologies over children life, including technical aspects, psychological and social related to online sexual abuse over children.
As internet and online technologies are built in the everyday life, rise questions regarding social implications and consequences. Children, young and their families have the tendency to be the first to adopt the new media. However they confront with a set of risky or negative experiences which they may be unprepared for. European Union Kids Online II has as main purpose to consolidate the knowledge database regarding children and parents experiences and risk and safety practice in using the internet and new online technologies in Europe.
The project works according to four methodological principles:
- a critical approach is obliged to examine, test and qualify the hypothesis regarding nature, extent and interpretation of online risk, nature and alphabetization degree regarding internet and effectiveness of parental regulation;
- a contextual approach to identify the social factors, cultural or individual, that matters for different experiences, like responds to risks;
- a child centered approach obliged to recognize and inform the difference in perspective between children and parents;
- a comparative approach is necessary to identify and analyze similarities and differences between online experiences of children from entire Europe.
