ESET NOD32 Antivirus, also known as NOD32, is an antivirus software package realized by Slovakian company ESET. NOD32 antivirus is sold in two editions: Home Edition and Business Edition.

History

ESET NOD32 Antivirus

NOD32 was created in early 1990 when computer viruses spread.

The ESET company reached the 5000th update of viruses definitions on April 5 2010.

The NOD acronym comes from „Nemocnica na Okraji Disku” (Hospital at End of Disk), a game word regarding the Slovakian drama series „Nemocnice na okraji města” (Hospital at the End of Town).

ESET Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange Server

At March 10 2010 ESET launched ESET Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange Server containing both anti-spam modules and anti-malware. Available for Microsoft Exchange 5.5, 2000, 2003, 2007 and 2010

ESET Mobile Antivirus

ESET Mobile Antivirus aims to protect smartphones against viruses, spyware, adware, Trojans, worms, rootkits and other unwanted software. Also it offers anti-spam filters for SMS. Currently are available versions for Windows Mobile and Symbian.

ESET Remote Administrator

ESET Remote Administrator is a central management console designed to allow network administrators to manage ESET software trough a corporate network.

ESET Smart Security

On November 5 2007, ESET launched a security package called ESET Smart Security. It includes an anti-spam and bidirectional firewall along with other traditional anti-malware characteristics ESET.

Receptivity

  • NOD32 was certified by the ICSA laboratories (International Computer Security Association);
  • It won 60 VB100 awards from Virus Bulletin (a magazine regarding prevention, detection and removal of malware and spam);
  • It was evaluated at 5 stars from 6 possible by the PC Pro Magazine;
  • CNET.com editors evaluated version 3.0 of NOD32 at 3.5 out of 5;
  • The 4.0 version of NOD32 received a complete evaluation (5/5):
  • Malware detection rate is 94.4% and spyware detection rate is 94.7% at last Antivirus benchmarkings.
