Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol
From Saferpedia
DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) is a protocol of computer networks used by hosts (DHCP clients) to take over tasks of IP addresses and other configuration information.
DHCP uses a Client-Server Architecture. The client sends a broadcast request for the information's configuration. DHCP server receives the request and answers with configuration information from its configuration database.
In DHCP absence all network hosts must be manually and individually configured which is a time consuming task and prone to errors.
