In computer networks, download is the action of receiving data on a local computer from another system. The download can be realized from a web server, FTP server, E-mail server, or any other server.

Using the term of download usually implies received data, stored permanently or temporary. The data received trough download can be used only when they've been entirely downloaded.

Sideload

A sideload is realized when a transfer of data is made between two or more local computers. It's difficult to say if there has been a download or an upload because the source and the destination is in the control area of the user. Because most of the non-technical users use the term "download" to refer to any type of transfer, to avoid confusions is used the term of "sideload" to cover all local transfers.
