Council of Europe works to combat sexual violence against children

Strasbourg, 22.03.2010 – in order to ratify the European Council Convention regarding children protection against sexual violence and exploitation San Marino authorized today Convention's entering in force starting with July 1, 2010.
Aiming to protect children against all forms of sexual violence whether they are committed by people close to the victim (like sexual abuse within families or protection institutions) or by strangers, the Convention is a significant progress to increase prevention and protection for victims and prosecution of offenders, regardless the place the crime was committed encouraging international cooperation. Currently the Convention was signed by 38 countries and ratified in 5 of those: Albany, Denmark, Greece, Holland and San Marino.
The Convention also includes measures to fight crimes committed using the Internet like online child pornography and grooming.
San Marino's ratify of the Convention was done one day before opening the yearly conference of European Council having as theme informational criminality. The conference will focus especially on measures adopted in order to efficiently fight child sexual abuse and children's exploitation using the Internet.
It should be removed the child pornography content or should be blocked access to relevant sites. Over 3000 participants from public and private sectors all over the world will continue the debate nationally in many European countries.
