COSMOTE Romania, member of COSMOTE Group, launched commercial operations in December 2005, with the aim of making mobile telephony accessible to all. In record time, the company upgraded and expanded its telecommunications network to offer over 99% population and 90% geographical coverage, while developing an extended commercial network of approximately 640 points of sale, one of the strongest in the country.
History
In March 2011 COSMOTE reached 6.6 million customers and a market share of approximately 24%. In 2010 the company posted revenues of 468.8 million Euro, up by 7.2% y-o-y, while its EBITDA profitability reached 73.7 million, 12.7% higher than in 2009. In November 2009, COSMOTE Group acquired Telemobil S.A (Zapp), further enhancing its growth profile in Romania, gaining access to 3G license & infrastructure. In 2010, COSMOTE Romania introduced full scale data services based on 3G and CDMA technologies with high speeds of up to 21.6 Mbps, further consolidating its position in the corporate customers segment. In Q1 2011, COSMOTE’s business customers base increased by 10%. Today, COSMOTE is the operator with the widest presence in SE Europe with 20 million customers in Greece, Albania, Bulgaria and Romania, addressing an extended market of 45 million people.
