Campus area network

A campus network (CAN - Campus Area Network) is a compuer network interconnecting local networks in a limited geographical area like a university campus, corporation campus or military base. It could be considered a metropolitan network specific to campus settings.
Within CAN, university's or campus' buildings are interconnected using the same type of technological equipments used within LAN. The difference is that all equipments including switches, routers, cables and wireless access points are owned and administered by campus's organization.
