Byte is a digital information unit used for computers and telecommunications. Byte is a sorted collection of bits where every bit is a binary value 1 or 0. Historically speaking a byte was the number of bits (usually 6,7,8 or 9) used to code a text character in a computer reason why is the base element for computers communication. The size of byte is usually dependent by computer's hardware but the actual standard is 8 bits. Most numerical values used by most applications are representable on 8 bits, reason why microprocessors producers optimize them for this general use.
