ARPANET
From Saferpedia
ARPANET or Advanced Research Projects Agency Network was an American project published in 1967 by Lawrence Roberts. In 1969 ARPANET was the first decentralized computer network in the world and ensured only three services:
- Telnet (remote login)
- File transfer, using FTP
- remote printing
ARPANET was a very simple network and has no important similarities with Internet nowadays. Its technology was to connect machines between four academical institutions: The Institute of Research in Standford, Utah University, California University in Los Angeles, and California University in Santa Barbara.
